Walking Proof Wins Independent Music Award

Awards have always seemed like a strange concept to me, especially when it comes to music. A small group of individuals decide which work of art is better than another work of art. It’s so subjective and idiosyncratic. Having said that, it does feel amazing to win!

My documentary Walking Proof which chronicles the two weeks I spent in the studio recording my debut full length album It’s Not An Excuse, It’s A Reason has won Best Long Form Video at this year’s Independent Music Awards! It’s such an honour to receive such positive reactions to something I poured my heart into and worked on nonstop for over a year. The film premiere, 5 star reviews and now this – it’s very humbling.

Voting for the fan choice award (a.k.a. “Vox Pop”) is still open until July 18th so, if you haven’t already, get on that and help put the icing on this metaphorical cake: Vote for Walking Proof! And, lastly, if you haven’t seen the film yet, it’s included for free with the physical version of It’s Not An Excuse, It’s A Reason so check it out and enjoy!

Halloween & Nominations

It’s been a great week in the world of little old me! On Halloween, I found out that It’s Not An Excuse, It’s A Reason has been nominated for a Hamilton Music Award! I’ve also been nominated for Local Group of the Year by the People’s Choice so that’s neat! I was lucky back in 2009 when my Break Me EP won the award for Best Pop/Rock Recording of the Year. Whether or not luck is on my side this time around, it’s honestly just great to be nominated again.

After I heard the good news, I rolled up my sleeves and started carving my little family’s first official Halloween pumpkin, turning it into what I would consider to be one bad ass jack-o’-lantern! I stuck a candle in it, cleaned myself up, put my superhero pajamas on and headed out the door… A typical night in the life, really.

Chels and I took Skyler out trick-or-treating for the first time ever. Last year on Halloween he was just one month old and terrifyingly sick with pertussis so, as you can imagine, this was a much better experience for all three of us, especially our little dinosaur! It was rainy, windy and cold but he had a sexy devil and ninja turtle to keep him warm and cozy so he was just fine.
